Wolff trips Horner? Toto wants 24% of Alpine
THE’Alpine is attracting the interest of several great protagonists of Formula 1. From the present, but also from the past. The team led by Flavio Briatore has share capital currently divided between Renault (76%) and Otro Capital (24%). This last share ended up in Chris’ sights Hornerwho is free to return to Formula 1 at the beginning of May after his dismissal from Red Bull, but is now among Toto’s targets Wolff.
There Mercedesas reported by Telegraphhe would be thinking of take over 24% of Alpine (i.e. the share of Otro Capital) for a sum of approximately 448 million pounds, thus continuing the collaboration started with the supply of power units at least until the end of 2030. Naturally, if this scenario occurred, which must be approved by Renault, the paths for Horner in Alpine would definitively close in light of the long-standing rivalry with the Austrian.
Even the mere existence of the engine deal, however, could be a major obstacle to Horner’s arrival. The former Red Bull wants to return to Formula 1 (“I have some unfinished business“) but only for a competitive project and not for an employee role: in short, he does not want to be “simply” a team principal but intends to acquire shares of the share package.
If Mercedes were to trip up the Briton this way, controversy would naturally arise over the timeshare issue, which Horner himself had benefited from as Red Bull team principal with the presence of Racing Bulls (formerly AlphaTauri and ToroRosso).
