With the new regulations it will be a different Silverstone “In the drivers’ chat we all talk about how much we will miss the power on this track: there are few corners to recharge the battery”. Lewis Hamilton’s words in the press conference confirm the fear that has been highlighted for months, hidden by F1 with the spring corrections and often overlooked by the Circus. The issues, however, risk coming home to roost on some of the most historic and eagerly awaited tracks on the calendar: Silverstone, Spa, Monza. The lead-up to the British GP was characterized by controversies among the drivers. Who once enjoyed the high-speed corners at Silverstone. Now they risk walking there, as underlined by Max Verstappen and repeated by Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard raised a further alarm bell, stating that the very fast Copse and Becketts complex could lose much of its charm. Alonso’s words “Becketts will be a charging station”, this was Alonso’s laconic comment at the Silverstone media day. “I think this year will be very different and sad to drive. The cars, looking at the laps in the simulator, will be quite disappointing. I think for the drivers, but also for the spectators.”
