The British Grand Prix allowed local fans to celebrate the presence on the podium of two English drivers such as George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Charles Leclerc, but not of a team like McLaren, which had also changed its livery for this very race. Throughout the weekend, the Woking manufacturer found it difficult to keep up with the pace of its direct rivals, and the same also and above all happened during the race. A podium in the Sprint If in the Sprint Race the reigning world champion Lando Norris still achieved third position, the Briton came within a step of the podium in the Sunday race, but managed to do so following Verstappen’s exit from the track, which occurred at the end, and due to the technical problem suffered by Antonelli just when the championship leader was close to Leclerc. Two episodes which therefore allowed Norris to climb from sixth position, where he started on the grid, to fourth: “We left Silverstone with a third place yesterday and a fourth today, two better results than our real pace would have suggested – admitted Norris, referring respectively to the Sprint and the GP – there are some positive aspects to draw inspiration from: we executed everything well, we had good reliability and we made the most of the mistakes of others, which is a fundamental part of racing. Furthermore, the support of the fans was incredible throughout the weekend, so I’m proud to have brought home a good haul of points. We will now focus on areas of improvement before heading to Spa. There is a lot to work on, but we are determined to improve the package, so that our results reflect our real performances.” A contact at the start The one who didn’t reach the points zone, despite a 7th place in the Sprint, was Oscar Piastri. Immediately in the early stages of the race, the Australian was forced to make a pit stop to replace the front wing, having been crushed between the two Racing Bulls. An episode that compromised his race, which he finished behind the Safety Car in 11th position: “A difficult day. I was crushed between two cars on the first lap, which damaged the front wing. Unfortunately there wasn’t much I could do, and this ruined my race. Our pace was a little stronger today and the car was better in clear air, but the collision prevented us from fully exploiting these advantages. The team is working hard to improve the car, especially in terms of grip. rear, so we will continue to give our best effort. We will debrief and focus on Spa.”
