Key weekend in Budapest Adrian Newey has revealed all the problems afflicting Aston Martin which are attributable to the mistakes made by him and his team and which are not attributable to the shortcomings – however important – of the Honda power unit. The plenipotentiary of Aston Martin also revealed that an important package of updates will arrive in Hungary with the aim of restoring some hope to Fernando Alonso, tempted on the market by the possibility of returning to Alpine in what would be a ‘take-4’ of his never-ending story with the Enstone team. “We plan to introduce our update in Hungary on both cars – explained Newey – the architecture of the chassis and gearbox does not undergo fundamental changes, but we have lightened both, which required new homologation and carrying out crash tests on the front part of the chassis. The front suspension remained unchanged. The rear one was slightly revised. We developed a new nose and substantially revised the aerodynamic surfaces. So, although the basic structure is similar, it is an important package aerodynamic combined with a significant weight reduction. The goal is to get as close to the weight limit as possible. Fernando is looking forward to this update and, if the performance is up to par, we hope he stays behind the wheel for another season.”
