In Brixworth they created a real gem. The 2026 F1 World Championship has so far offered 8 victories and as many pole positions between Sprint and GP and the Mercedes power units have conquered them all. Mercedes won all the GPs, always taking pole position in qualifying, McLaren completed the ‘coat’ with the pole and victory for Norris in the Sprint Qualifying and in the Sprint of the Miami GP. That the Mercedes power unit would be competitive was certainly no secret within the paddock. Alpine has decided to disavow its own production in order to put the engines made in Brixworth under the hood. The result is fifth place in the Constructors’ standings, a big leap compared to the last one achieved in 2025. At the end of the Miami GP, seven of the 10 cars that scored were powered by a Mercedes engine, only Pierre Gasly’s Alpine was missing, knocked out by an error of judgment when braking by Liam Lawson. But what are the secrets of the Mercedes power unit that make it so high-performance? According to what was reported by corriere.it, it managed to interpret the new regulation better than anyone else. A super-stable compression ratio, combined with efficient combustion, would in fact allow lower consumption and more effective charging cycles, keeping the level of available energy constant.
