Uphill straight away Kalle Rovanperä’s adventure in Super Formula, the Japanese open-wheel category known in the past as Formula Nippon, did not begin positively. The Finn, two-time WRC world champion, was expected in Suzuka for the first post-season tests at the wheel of the KCMG team, but the first day of testing lasted just over 30 laps. The malaise After completing the first session during the morning, necessary to collect the first data and to understand the characteristics of the car, the 25-year-old felt a strong malaise attributable to a strong form of dizziness. For this reason, Rovanperä did not take part in the afternoon tests, with the doctor present on site who imposed a week’s rest on him: “During the mid-day break I had symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which affects balance and vision through the inner part of the ear. The doctor has banned me from driving this week – wrote the Finn on his social profiles after recovering from the illness – I am really disappointed because we did not have the opportunity to drive properly, at the aerodynamic test starts this morning. How unfortunate to have this problem on our first outing. Now it’s time to heal and I can only wait for the next time.” As a result, Rovanperä will return to the track for pre-season testing in February and March, again in Suzuka. Before that, however, he will participate in the Formula Regional Ocenia championship with the Hitech team.
