The live broadcast kept pace, the deferred broadcast did not. Compared to the 2025 and previous editions, the timing of the Canadian GP in 2026 was decidedly more unfortunate. 12 months ago the race started live on Sky at 8pm, with a delay on TV8 at 9.30pm in prime time. This year, however, the GP started at 10.00pm and the delay consequently went to 11.30pm. TV ratings still held up despite the late evening. In 2025, the live broadcast on Sky recorded 1,100,000 viewers, a figure even surpassed by the 1,119,000 this year. The deferred broadcast on TV8, however, for obvious reasons lost quite a few viewers, going from 1,280,000 to 798,000, almost half a million less. The total is just under two million in 2026 – 1,917,000 – compared to 2,380,000 in 2025, a deficit attributable entirely to the deferred broadcast given that the live broadcast even fared slightly better than 12 months ago.
