McLaren, great trust in Fornaroli Leonardo Fornaroli completed a two-day test session at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin at the wheel of the 2023 McLaren MCL60, as part of his growth path within the Woking team, of which he is reserve driver. The reigning Formula 2 champion was making his debut on the Texan circuit and completed 77 laps between Wednesday and Thursday, for a total of 425 kilometres. This test represented the third outing of the Piacenza driver in the TPC program (tests on previous cars) and had the aim of consolidating the progress achieved in the previous sessions at Montmeló and Silverstone. The two-day Texan also confirms the great trust that the Papayas have in the class of 2004, who has already been praised on several occasions for the quality of his work “behind the scenes”. Fornaroli’s words: “It’s always fantastic to drive an F1 car. I’m grateful to McLaren for giving me another opportunity to get behind the wheel of the MCL60. I feel more and more comfortable with the car and also with the team. The program was more demanding than my last test at Silverstone. We were able to do some test runs, which helped me better understand what it takes to drive an F1 car. Everyone continues to support me and encourage me with these tests as I continue my racing journey. growth”, commented Fornaroli. The variable weather conditions offered further learning opportunities for the Italian: the first day was characterized by heat, humidity and intermittent drizzle, while the second took place with cooler temperatures. The on-track program included long run and short run simulations, grid start tests and preparation laps, useful for improving familiarity with a modern Formula 1 car in different conditions.
