The horses are arriving for the Cavallino After the many rumors, Ferrari has confirmed the introduction of the updated specification of its power unit for the Austrian Grand Prix.
As reported in recent weeks, the team led by Frederic Vasseur had planned the update of the Ferrari engine in two parts – a first specific one to be introduced as soon as the ADUO green light was received (which has therefore arrived) and a second more substantial one scheduled for September after the summer break. Gualtieri confirms the new Ferrari power unit Enrico Gualtieri, technical director of PU Ferrari, explained: “Since the beginning of the 2026 project we have combined continuous development work with programs with a longer horizon, with the aim of exploiting every available opportunity to increase the performance of our power unit. These two strands proceed in parallel and often reinforce each other. The whole team in the factory is working with great intensity to make the most of the additional opportunities offered by the ADUO mechanism, in full coherence with our development roadmap. The update we are introducing at Spielberg is relatively small and reflects the work done in recent weeks to transfer the progress made in our development programs to the track. It is however the expression of one of the fundamental principles of Formula 1: continually improve, react quickly and introduce updates as they become available.” At Ferrari there is an awareness, reiterated by Gualtieri, that this “limited update alone will not be sufficient to change the values on the field”.
The Italian engineer then concluded: “We are perfectly aware that some of our competitors have done a better job so far. It is part of the reality of Formula 1 and represents a stimulus and a very clear objective for us. We know that it will not be an easy path and we prefer to rely on facts rather than promises. However, I can say that the whole group is extremely united and works with great dedication. We are convinced that, with concentration, method and consistency, we will be able to achieve the objectives we have set ourselves.”
