Premium new energy vehicle brand Denza will enter Australia later this year with two plug-in hybrid SUVs, the B5 and flagship B8, promising dual-motor 4WD, BYD’s Blade Battery tech and off-road hardware aimed at established premium rivals.
Built on BYD’s DM-O “super-hybrid” platform, both models pair petrol power with a rechargeable battery and twin motors. The B5 arrives in two trims — B5 and B5 Leopard — each producing 425kW/760Nm and using a 31.8kWh Blade Battery for up to 90km WLTP of electric-only driving. DC fast charging is up to 100kW.
The B5 Leopard adds off-road kit including DiSus-P hydraulic adaptive suspension, front and rear electrically actuated mechanical diff locks, and a 3,000kg braked towing capacity. Inside, both B5 variants seat five and provide up to 1064L of boot space, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, 12.3-inch driver display, Nappa leather, a 360-degree camera and 11 airbags.
Sitting above it, the B8 will be offered in 6-seat (6S) and 7-seat (7S) layouts. It lifts output to 450kW/760Nm, keeps the 31.8kWh battery, increases DC fast-charge to 120kW, and fits a 91-litre fuel tank for long touring. Off-road hardware includes DiSus-P suspension as standard, electric differential locks (front and rear on 6S) and a 3,500kg towing capacity.
Cabins add soft-closing doors, Nappa leather, heated/ventilated/massaging seats and a cooled/heated storage box (-6°C to 50°C). The 6S gains second-row captain’s chairs. Tech highlights include a 15.6-inch rotating central screen, 12.3-inch instrument display and an 18-speaker Devialet audio system, while safety lists 14 airbags and a 360-degree camera.
“With the B5 and B8, DENZA is taking a swing at the establishment,” Denza chief operating officer Mark Harland says.
“They’re purpose-built, premium SUVs that offer something the market hasn’t seen before – combining cutting-edge tech, serious off-road capability, and luxury that doesn’t ask you to compromise.”
Expressions of interest are open now, with orders due to start in early December. For more information, go to denza.com/au.
