Racing Bulls F1 Canada, the chronicle of the Sprint Qualifying The Sprint Qualifying in Montreal reaffirms the clear superiority of Mercedes. Although the gap is not as large as in free practice, the W17 edges out three tenths of a second from all the competition, with George Russell’s pole position in 1:12.965 and Kimi Antonelli’s second place: thanks to a less than optimal first sector on the part of the Bolognese, this time it is the Briton (always at ease in Canada) who wins the internal challenge of Toto Wolff’s team. The gaps, however, are minimal. There are only 68 thousandths between the two, and tomorrow there will be sparks in Turn 1. In the second row is McLaren, which is therefore a candidate for the role of closest contender to Mercedes, even if the gap from the W17 seems difficult to fill. The two papayas were also very close: 19 thousandths between Lando Norris’ third place and Oscar Piastri’s fourth. Tomorrow the world champion will compete for the top-3 with his teammate and the Ferraris. Once again the SF-26s broke up in the decisive phase of qualifying: Lewis Hamilton, first in SQ1 and second in SQ2, improved by only two tenths in the final minutes, while the others (Russell excluded, who set a supersonic time in SQ2) shaved off at least half a second. The same goes for Charles Leclerc, who only took 144 thousandths off his time in SQ2 and had to settle for P6 behind his teammate. In an “orderly” grid, the first four cars monopolize their respective rows. Red Bull remains in fourth (Max Verstappen 7th, Isack Hadjar 8th) and is certainly a step back compared to what we saw in Miami. First Q3/SQ3 for Williams thanks to Carlos Sainz, Arvid Lindblad also did well, ninth. Sergio Perez also showed off in the rear, beating Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin and Pierre Gasly’s Alpine.
