Once again a difficult weekend for Cadillac, which failed to score a point-scoring finish with both of its drivers at the Canadian Grand Prix. A negative streak of results that has continued uninterrupted for the US team since its debut in F1 this year, with only Valtteri Bottas reaching the finish line in 16th position, last among the classified. The words of the Finn: “A long, hard day. We struggled a lot with the balance. We couldn’t solve the oversteer problem in any way during the race, which was the main problem and something we need to look into. In terms of results, maybe sometimes we can’t see much progress, but it’s not just about the pace of the car, because we are continuing to improve in every other aspect. We are going step by step and we knew it would take time. The next race is in two weeks, so hopefully we can take a further step forward.” The most competitive weekend Sergio Perez’s race, however, was more unlucky. Like McLaren and Audi, the Mexican also played the Intermediate tire card, returning to the pits immediately afterwards due to the total absence of precipitation. In addition, the former Red Bull had to retire due to suspension damage: “It was going well! Obviously we made a mistake with the intermediate tires at the start, but we were in the balance. We were recovering and staying in the fight, fighting with Esteban [Ocon]then I passed in front of the Haas and we had a good pace. Then, unfortunately, we had a suspension failure and had to retire. We made a huge step forward this weekend and it was our most competitive weekend since the start of the season, so there are a lot of positives. Now we just need to get things right operationally to capitalize on the progress we’ve made.”
