The comeback to the points zone For the first time since the Chinese GP, Oliver Bearman returned to the points zone in the last Canadian GP. A placement that might have actually seemed difficult to achieve for the British driver from Haas, considering the start from the sixteenth spot on the starting grid. However, also thanks to the retirements of others and the red pencil error by McLaren, who decided to fit intermediate tires at the start, Bearman climbed up to 10th place. Point deserved? A placing which, regardless of the point obtained, does not fully satisfy the Englishman, also thanks to the mistake made by the team during the tire change which occurred on lap 31 which caused a loss of time: “I don’t know if we deserved the points based on our performance, but we willingly accept them, given that there have been weekends in which we deserved them and we achieved nothing – he commented – in general, it was a really challenging weekend for us, but obtaining points is positive. We could have done more, but we had a pit slow stop, so we need to understand why it happened. The track was very slippery and difficult, and I chose to start on the used soft tires because I thought they would help me on the first lap, but in the end we did three more formation laps, so I don’t know if I got much benefit from it. I don’t think we’ll leave with a big smile on our faces, but we have a week before we have to come back strong in Monaco.” Brake problems Even more disappointed is teammate Esteban Ocon, who has never scored a point in this championship except for Suzuka. The Frenchman, who started from 17th place, finished in 14th position at the end of a race affected by several problems: “It was tough, to say the least. There was something not working in braking and I kept locking the wheels, so we need to look into the matter further. We fitted the new configuration of the car after qualifying, so I only did two actual laps, but as a team we will go back and study everything.”
