A new F1 to get used to
The regulatory revolution scheduled for 2026 has produced a definitely different Formula 1 from the recent past. We saw more overtaking and counter-overtaking, but issues such as the management of the energy produced by the batteries and the impossibility for the drivers to push hard in qualifying have become topical. A meeting is scheduled after the Japanese Grand Prix to understand where to intervene in regulatory matters, to improve some aspects of this “new” Formula 1 and everything suggests that at least the qualification will be made more similar to what was known – and appreciated – in the past.
Agag reveals: this was the plan of Toto Wolff and Mercedes
The founder of Formula E, Alejandro Agagspoke about the new direction of Formula 1 to the notebooks of Brand: “I like it, because I understand what’s happening. Watching Formula E is like watching Formula 1 now. We’ve had the issue of charging and discharging the battery for 12 years…”.
Agag then underlined the convergence between the two categories, indicating a manager as the mind behind what is happening in F1: “When Mercedes left here, it was because they wanted to copy what was in Formula E and transfer it to Formula 1. The great inspirers of what is happening now in F1 are Mercedes and Toto Wolff. Then Toto, who was here, saw what was there and said: “I will bring all this to Formula 1 and combine Formula 1 and Formula E”. And since the idea came from him, he has an advantage and it shows in the difference it has compared to others…”.
