Waiting for the new turbo with the ADUO-2 A ‘reality check’, that is, a weekend in which we came to terms with reality. This is how Lewis Hamilton defined the Austrian GP, a weekend in which Ferrari brought to the track an engine equipped with improvements granted by what can be defined as ‘the ADUO-1’, i.e. the first of the 2 updates to which Ferrari is entitled in 2026. The double update in 2026 and 2027 is guaranteed to all engine engineers who are more than 4% behind the reference internal combustion engine and as reported by the newspaper The-Race.com the Maranello ICE pays a gap of as much as 6-8% compared to the Red Bull one which was judged the best on the starting grid at the beginning of 2026. In Austria Ferrari brought some innovations which did not involve structural interventions on the power unit and consequently on the entire SF-26, ‘the ADUO-2’ on the other hand will be decidedly more substantial from this point of view. Everything suggests that Ferrari will equip itself with a larger turbo to align itself with the competition after deciding to focus on a faster smaller turbo only to then see some benefits of this choice frustrated by changes to the starting procedure. The new Ferrari engine is scheduled for after the summer break in Holland or for the home GP in Monza, where on the long straights it is absolutely necessary to have a turbo of adequate size.
