Red Bull, Horner’s shadow at Silverstone These are difficult days at Red Bull. Max Verstappen’s second place in Austria did not calm things down, because the Dutchman had certainly not forgotten the technical problem that occurred in Q3 of his home GP. And since Super Max can’t stand seeing the same mistakes, he went into a rage after his retirement at Silverstone, caused by the usual rear wing problem. To make the situation worse, there was the presence of Chris Horner, removed a year ago from Red Bull following inappropriate behavior towards an employee (a matter later closed with a maxi-compensation) and above all for the poor results obtained in the first part of 2025. The Briton has always avoided talking about Red Bull after his dismissal, limiting his public outings and attendance at the circuits as much as possible. Silverstone, however, was an exception, and Horner couldn’t resist a joke about the state of the art in Milton Keynes. Horner’s words “I find this engine incredible”. Four words, reported by AUTOHebdo, which however are a boulder towards Red Bull. It was Horner, in fact, who strongly wanted a “homemade” power unit with the help of Ford, canceling the agreement with Porsche when it seemed one step away. And now that the fruit of this challenge (at least as far as the ICE is concerned) has been defined by the FIA as the engine benchmark, Horner underlines his work with the mocking smile of someone who knows that this very power unit will prevent Red Bull from having ADUO tokens to use on the 2026 car: “We sometimes tend to forget the extent of this undertaking, and now apparently the engine is considered the best. I’m extremely proud of it,” he added. His future Horner has repeatedly underlined that he wants to return to F1, but not at any cost. On the other hand, the Briton has already won a lot as team principal (eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ titles, the entire Red Bull trophy cabinet has his signature) and is now looking for a new challenge. Sportingly ambitious, but also involving him on the financial side. The ideal path seemed to be Alpine, via the acquisition of the 24% held by Otro Capital, but Renault group chief executive François Provost said last month there was no ongoing discussion with Horner.
