The toto-Horner There are some, within the F1 paddock, who return cyclically. One of these, since Christian Horner left – not by his will – the leadership of the Red Bull team a year ago, is the possibility of his new advent in the Circus wearing the jersey of another team. The most talked about hypothesis in recent times was that of Alpine, in which Horner was interested in acquiring the 24% of the shares currently held by Otro Capital. But cyclically the English manager’s name is also linked to another, decidedly more prestigious team (with all due respect to Alpine): Ferrari. The latest to relaunch this suggestion was Bernie Ecclestone, who during the weekend of the Austrian GP made his reappearance not only in the paddock, but even on the podium to reward the protagonists of the Red Bull Ring race. Speaking to journalists present in Austria, Ecclestone even explained that he himself had tried to convince Horner to join Ferrari, but evidently without success, at least for the moment. Ecclestone red ‘ambassador’ “Christian still finds himself in a difficult position – explained Ecclestone, as reported by the RacingNews365 website – wherever he goes, if he isn’t successful, people will say ‘well, he was only very good when he was at Red Bull and had huge budgets available’ and things like that. So it’s difficult for him”. “I talk to him quite often – Ecclestone revealed – and at the beginning I was trying to convince him to try to join Ferrari. Where will he end up? I have no idea”, commented the 95-year-old former F1 boss. The problem, regarding a possible Horner-Ferrari partnership, is that the English manager no longer seems to want to be satisfied with being team principal. Horner would like a ‘Wolff-like’ role, that is, with a significant shareholding within the team. Something that, inevitably, in the Scuderia Ferrari would be difficult – if not impossible – for him to obtain.
