No top 10 For the first time in this world championship, Alpine finished a race weekend without any points scored. A disappointment added to yet another double achieved by Racing Bulls, which in its excellent period of form has instead accumulated crucial points to reduce the gap in the Constructors’ standings to the Anglo-French manufacturer. Gasly’s obstacles A weekend to forget for both drivers, starting with Pierre Gasly. Having come within a whisker of reaching Q3, with a move into the top ten that would have sensationally eliminated Max Verstappen, the Frenchman encountered serious problems in tire management during the race, due above all to the high temperatures of the Austrian track, but not only: “After this race, probably the most difficult of the season, we have to understand a lot – he admitted at the end of the GP, which ended in 13th place – the track conditions were difficult in terms of grip and balance of the car, and there was a strong tire degradation. I had to make three pit stops because they wore out very quickly. The race didn’t start in the best way, with a power problem on the straights. We lost positions and then we found ourselves in traffic, but in the end, even on the open track, we didn’t have the pace and, as I said, there was a lot of tire degradation. On Sunday in Barcelona it was very hot, so I was optimistic that this would play in our favor compared to the Racing Bulls, but it didn’t, so there’s that. a lot to work on. It’s clear where we need to improve and I know the team will look for answers to be able to react immediately before the Sprint weekend at Silverstone.” Problems that were also highlighted by the Argentinian Franco Colapinto, 15th at the finish line: “It wasn’t an easy weekend and in general we weren’t able to find the pace or the grip. We struggled to find a good balance, the race was very long and the high temperatures of the track forced us to consume a lot of energy, especially on the rear tyres. The pace at the start was strong with the new tyres, then it dropped quite aggressively during the stint and the more we slipped, the more the tires deteriorated. they were heating up. We need to understand better what happened, because we are usually stronger in the race and today that wasn’t the case. I had a bad start with little push, which meant we already had to fight from the back from the first lap. There were some good battles, but we want to fight higher up, which is what we aim to do at Silverstone next weekend.”
