Why the FIA made this decision No ‘Macarena’ for Ferrari in the 2026 Monaco GP: as reported by the newspaper The-Race.com, the FIA, in fact, has decided to ban the use of active aerodynamics during the Principality weekend. The wings will remain closed, there will be no straight line mode in Monaco. The FIA made this decision for multiple reasons. The main one is that active aerodynamics are expected in places where the cars are not at maximum traction and grip, in places where in simple terms the car is not under stress. In Monaco this condition never occurs, or at least not for long enough to make the use of active aerodynamics ‘useful’. Furthermore, the Federation considered it excessive to subject the pilots to the use of an additional control, that linked to active aerodynamics, on a track where the level of stress for the pilots is already decidedly high. Finally, the FIA considered that the active aerodynamics could have caused a significant speed delta when approaching corners. Wings closed in Monaco therefore and the overtake mode will essentially reflect what was the only DRS zone: the drivers will have an extra boost of energy from before the Antony Noghes if at the detection point located at the exit of the second variant of the Piscine they are within one second of distance from the cars in front.
