The mysteries of the RB22 Max Verstappen will start from sixth position in tomorrow’s Canadian GP. A result in line with the expectations of the day before and indeed the gap – less than four tenths from George Russell’s pole position – would seem encouraging for Red Bull. But the Dutchman himself took care of dampening any type of positive signal, first by communicating with the team via radio and then in the traditional ritual interviews at the end of qualifying in which he essentially confessed that he wasn’t understanding anything of what was happening on his RB22. “I actually don’t have the slightest idea what happened during qualifying – Verstappen admitted with disarming sincerity, to the microphones of Dutch TV Viaplay – with every lap I did the more I drove and the more I slowed down on the straights. I made up time in the corners, but I lost more than I gained on the straights. I have no idea if we did things right there. I asked a couple of times [al team]but I received no response.
