F1 and IndyCar: a weekend ‘together’ In a few days, North America will be home to two important races: while the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix will take place in Montreal, the 110th edition of the Indianapolis 500 will be held in the United States. Two categories representing two different worlds, with some F1 drivers attracted to IndyCar. In other cases, however, participation in this championship, or in the Indianapolis 500 alone, has never fully convinced for various reasons. The fear of getting hurt Four-time world champion Max Verstappen, for example, excluded himself from the possibility of taking to the track on the famous American oval, declaring that he did not want to risk his life and potentially get hurt. A comment shared by a former teammate of the Dutchman, as well as a former Formula 1 driver: Daniel Ricciardo. Now a Ford ambassador after his retirement from racing, the Australian will promote his wine brand on the occasion of the 500 Miglia in collaboration with Conor Daly, and in the latter’s podcast, Speed Street, he had the opportunity to express his vision on this historic race and the differences between F1 and IndyCar: “There is absolutely no ‘we are cooler than you’ – he explained – there is nothing of the sort, at least I have never perceived it. After all, we all love racing. You do a very different discipline, especially racing on ovals, compared to the circuit racing that we do with huge downforce. I’ve been saying this for several years: they scare me so much, they’re crazy cool.
