However, Audi’s reaction is different and, according to some rumors in the paddock, it would be the F1 manufacturer which, together with Honda, would have opposed Ben Sulayem’s idea of bringing forward the debut of the new technical cycle as early as 2029 or 2030. Audi F1, Mattia Binotto is slowing down for now And while Toto Wolff immediately declared himself enthusiastic about the idea of returning to V8s – a rather heavy stance, moreover, given that he is the person who represents the manufacturer which, at least for the moment, it has the greatest technical advantage with current technology – In fact, Audi F1 team principal and project leader Mattia Binotto expressed a less enthusiastic opinion in Miami about the idea of changing course: “What will the future be? I think it’s too early to say. Of course, we have started discussing it with the FIA and I think we will sit down at a table to discuss what is best for Formula 1.” “However – adds Binotto – I would not really be so negative about the current regulation, in fact I think that overall we can say that it is a good format. We have recently changed the rules slightly to perfect it, trying to improve it. Maybe we will do more in the future and in the next seasons, but I think we should also be somewhat positive about what we see. And, if you look at the past, I think there have been times when Formula 1 was more boring. We have always looked for high efficiency engines and I think this is important for Audi, but we will certainly discuss with F1 and FIA what the best compromise will be for the future.”
