Lawson-Gasly: fear for the Frenchman For the first time at the start of the season, Racing Bulls ends a match without any points. A decidedly complicated weekend for the Faenza team on the Miami street circuit, where a contact occurred between Liam Lawson and Pierre Gasly during the 6th lap. In an attempt to overtake the New Zealander on the outside, the latter touched the Frenchman’s left rear wheel, with the Alpine overturning and ending up against the barriers. An accident which, at first, raised concerns about Gasly’s condition, who got out of the car without any consequences. The contact, however, forced Lawson to retire, with the latter commenting on the incident as follows: “It was a difficult weekend here in Miami. We had a gearbox problem, which had never happened to us before, and this made me lose control of the car and I ended up hitting Pierre. The collision ended his race and the problem forced us to retire, which is obviously frustrating. I went straight to Pierre after the race to apologize and I’m glad he’s okay, which is the most important. We had a great start and gained a lot of positions, so it’s a shame that the race ended like this. We will use the next two weeks to regroup and put to good use what we learned in Canada, a track that I really like.” Uphill first stint Starting from 14th place, the race also proved to be very difficult for Arvid Lindblad, who explained in detail what went wrong in the 57 laps completed, ending in sixteenth position: “I knew it would be a difficult race, given the limited mileage this weekend. I struggled in the first stint, the pace with the medium tires wasn’t enough and I had very little grip. As soon as I switched to the hard tyres, I felt more comfortable, the car was easier to drive and the pace has definitely improved. We will carefully analyze everything that happened this weekend, I will continue to work on my part and learn. The team did a great job this weekend, managing to make the most of some difficult situations. Overall, I’m really enjoying driving the car and I’m looking forward to another new track.”
