Politics at work The world of Formula 1 is continuing to take advantage of the forced break from racing – caused by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia GPs due to the ongoing war in the Middle East – to think about any changes to be made to the new technical regulations once racing returns at the beginning of May in Miami. The big day, the one on which we will actually vote on whether or not to decide on some regulatory adjustments, will be April 20th. In the meantime, however, the negotiations do not stop: last April 9th there was the first of a series of meetings called by the FIA which involved the technical experts of the teams and engine manufacturers. However, only a generic “commitment to making changes in energy management” emerged from this online meeting. Last chance for the pilots In all of this, however, the pilots also want to have their say, as GPDA president Alexander Wurz had already highlighted. Before the vote on April 20th in the presence of the team principals, the FIA intends to discuss the results of the last technical meeting with the drivers. This consultation will also logically take place online, given the absence of race weekends. This will perhaps be the greatest opportunity for the riders to make their positions known, assuming there is a united front not so much on the changes to be made, but rather on how to make them. Verstappen, Norris and partners will thus have an important opportunity to express their concerns and propose their own changes to the regulations.
