The Mercedes customer case
On the sidelines of the Australian Grand Prix weekend, to Andrea Stella of McLaren and James Vowles of Williams had been asked why their teams were so far from Mercedesdespite having the same power unit.
Vowles remained vague: “What Mercedes does with the power unit took us a little by surprise. They are fair to the customer teams and I’m sure we have access to everything they have access to. It’s just a matter of understanding how to do certain things.”
Stella had been more polemical: “The discussion with HPP on whether to have more information has been going on for weeks. This is not how we work in Formula 1.”
Toto Wolff of Mercedes had nipped any inference in the bud: “It is not possible to satisfy everyone. When there is a rule change, there is a lot to learn“.
Ferrari on the other hand…
On the side of Ferrari powered cars, it was Oliver Bearman from the Haas to explain in China that Maranello’s availability was total: “I have to say that theFerrari were incredibly open and helpful with us in terms of their energy delivery strategy and giving us as much information as possible to help us. I think the situation with Ferrari is different than that between McLaren and Mercedes.”
