The former great is now at the helm of Red Bull
The first weekend in Australia for the Red Bull it was in chiaroscuro, even if considering the premises of a novice as an engineer the glass is half full. Isack Hadjar was the fastest in Qualifying behind the Mercedes, Max Verstappen recovered from the back of the grid to finish sixth and Arvid Lindblad scored his first points in F1 on his debut with Racing Bulls. To counteract this good balance there is Hadjar’s technical knockout in the race and Verstappen’s mysterious off-track exit in Qualifying.
Anyway the team principal Laurent Mekies he is convinced that there are practically no limits to how much developments can change the face of the ranking: “Mercedes has a big advantage, but through developments we can catch up – said Mekies in an interview given to Corriere dello Sport – the season has just started and I also believe that it is not necessary to intervene on the relationships between electrical power and thermal power after only two races, it would be impulsive, at least 4-5 races are needed to make a more considered decision”.
In addition to Mercedes, Red Bull also has to chase an excellent one Ferrari: “We beat them in qualifying, but they went faster in the race. They are clearly the second force, they did a great job on the car and on the power unit, a strong Ferrari is good news for our sport and a great motivation for us who want to catch up with them.”
