The Englishman celebrates in Melbourne
George Russell won the Australian GP in Melbourne. The Mercedes driver had to fight for a long time with Charles Leclerc at the start of the race, but in the end he didn’t even have to sweat overtaking on the track because Mercedes used a Virtual Safety Car to bring forward the pit stop, halving the time to make it.
Russell then took the first position also on the track, overtaking Lewis Hamilton who was at the end of his stint on medium tires and didn’t put up much resistance.
The English driver celebrated his success in Australia via radio: “I like this car and I like this engine“. A Mercedes double it should have been and it was a double, we’ll see if next weekend in China the W17 proves to be unbeatable again.
