GAC Australia has announced Australian specifications for the AION V electric SUV, confirming two trim levels ahead of the Chinese brand’s market entry next month.
The all-electric medium SUV will be offered in Premium and Luxury variants, with GAC positioning the model as an alternative that addresses traditional electric vehicle ownership concerns through superior range and advanced battery technology.
GAC sold over 2 million vehicles in China last year and operates in more than 20 markets worldwide. The brand has confirmed partnerships with Toyota and Honda, drawing on decades of in-house research and development.
Technical specifications and range
The AION V uses GAC’s proprietary 400V electric architecture paired with a 75.26kWh battery pack. The company claims a WLTP range of 510km, supported by structural lightweighting measures through extensive aluminium use.
Fast charging capability allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% state of charge in 16 minutes using a 180kW charger. The vehicle’s 150kW motor delivers 210Nm of torque, while a heat-pump air-conditioning system contributes to power efficiency.
The SUV measures 4605mm long, 1854mm wide and 1686mm high, with a 2775mm wheelbase. Boot capacity ranges from 427 litres to 978 litres with rear seats folded.
Safety technology focus
GAC has emphasised safety through its Magazine Battery 2.0 technology, which the company says provides exceptional durability and fire resistance. The patented system is designed to withstand extreme conditions including impact and twist tests.
The AION V includes i-Size compatibility for child seats, meeting the latest international standards for child seat installation.
Interior and luxury features
The interior centres around a 14.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Both trim levels feature panoramic sunroofs with electric sunscreens and 4mm acoustic glass for noise reduction.
Rear legroom extends up to 1.1 metres, with both front seats capable of full recline. The Luxury trim adds eight-point massage seats for front occupants and a 6.6-litre refrigerator built into the central armrest.
The refrigerator can maintain 4°C while consuming 0.5kWh over 24 hours, or operate between –15°C and 50°C depending on requirements.
“We’ve already delivered the AION V in over 20 countries worldwide, and we’re delighted that Australians can now experience this exceptional, feature-rich SUV for themselves,” GAC Australia Deputy General Manager Cheney Liang said.
“Whether choosing the Premium or Luxury model, every AION V represents the very best of modern electric powertrain technology, combining this with the safety, comfort and everyday practicality that truly make a difference in Australian life.”
GAC will announce pricing and warranty information when the brand launches in Australia later in November.
