Polestar has opened its first Urban Space concept showroom in Penrith, New South Wales, featuring innovative construction using cross-laminated timber sourced from certified, responsibly managed forests.

The Swedish electric vehicle brand says the Penrith location is the first Polestar Space in Australia to use the Urban Space concept, originally developed by Alfa Neon in Sweden. Australia becomes only the third global market to implement the Black Box design constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT).

The prefabricated CLT construction requires less energy to produce than conventional building materials and creates minimal waste through its precise manufacturing process. Non-toxic adhesives are used in assembly to reduce environmental impact.

“The launch of this Penrith Space is a reminder that Polestar’s commitment to industry leading design and sustainability extends well beyond our cars,” Polestar Australia Managing Director Scott Maynard said.

“We’re excited to grow our presence in areas such as Penrith, where electric vehicle take-up is strong, and we’re proud to be partnering with the team at Polestar Penrith to sell cars in such a unique facility.”

The construction concept allows a showroom built using techniques typically reserved for temporary structures to perform like a permanent building, remaining operational for up to 25 years with proper maintenance.

Polestar Penrith Dealer Principal John Dunn said the project represented a significant undertaking for the dealership.

“The Black Box is one impressive flat pack. We’ve never undertaken a project like this, and it’s immensely satisfying seeing it come to life,” Dunn said.

“We’ve worked closely with Polestar HQ to make this Space a reality, and we’re excited to be handing cars over in a location so closely aligned with Polestar’s core values.”

Australian expansion continues

The Penrith opening forms part of Polestar Australia’s broader expansion during 2025, which has seen the brand establish presence in South Australia, regional Victoria, Canberra, Western Australia, and western Sydney.

Polestar owners now have access to a network of 20 Polestar Service Points across Australia for maintenance and accessories. The expanded retail network supports Polestar’s global shift to an active selling model, with the company targeting a 75% increase in retail spaces globally before the end of 2026.

Polestar currently offers three models in Australia, with pricing starting from $62,400 for the Polestar 2 electric fastback. The Polestar 3 large luxury electric SUV starts from $118,420, while the Polestar 4 coupe-SUV hybrid is priced from $78,500.

The Polestar 5 electric performance GT will arrive in Australia during 2026, capable of 0–100km/h in 3.2 seconds.
