The GP of the strangest penalties At the end of the 2026 British Grand Prix the FIA penalized Carlos Sainz by one lap for a rather rare reason: that of having overtaken the Safety Car. Obviously the maneuver of the Spaniard from Williams was not at all voluntary, but the result of a misunderstanding at a time when the #55 was doubled when, in reality, he was not among the lapped drivers. From Sainz to Stroll The FIA worked not only on the unpublished case of Sainz, but also on those that pushed Lance Stroll to 19th and last place among the classified, this time for different reasons. Aston Martin’s home weekend had already started badly for the Canadian, 21st in qualifying but forced to start from last place due to the replacement of some components of the Honda engine, which cost him ten positions on the grid. Furthermore, during the race, Stroll exceeded the track limits on three occasions, i.e. the maximum allowed before incurring a time penalty. In the second half of the GP, the white lines of the track actually became a curse for the Canadian, who crossed them not once, but three times. This, in addition, occurred in less than 10 laps: on the 33rd (in turn 18), on the 35th (in turn 9) and on the 42nd (in turn 15). In total, Stroll exceeded the track limits at Silverstone six times, but penalties came for the last three, accumulating a total of 15 seconds of penalties and finishing in 19th position, one lap behind winner Charles Leclerc.
