24 Hours of Nurburgring, here we go. Has the package of changes to the 2026 Formula 1 engine software been enough to cure Max Verstappen’s stomach aches? Perhaps. What is certain, however, is that the innovations introduced in Miami have in no way changed the original plans of the four-time world champion who, in fact, as scheduled – in an approach march that began last year with some preparatory races aimed at obtaining the special “licence” to compete on the Nordschleife – this weekend (here is the complete programme) will compete at the Nurburgring in the 24 Hours on one of the most demanding, technical and dangerous circuits in the world. Weekend is uphill… The latest outings haven’t even been so lucky, with disqualifications a few hours after celebrating a victory – due to a team error linked to the number of tires used over the weekend – canceled races and retirements due to mechanical problems. So much so that Max Verstappen’s crew will have to get their hands dirty right from the first elimination qualifying session, called Top Qualifying 1 (or, more simply, TQ1) to move up the group and avoid starting too far back in the 24 Hours grid. … but Max Verstappen’s goal doesn’t change. A challenging challenge, certainly, but one that doesn’t scare the Red Bull ace who, despite making his debut in such a long race, is already aiming for the big target, namely overall victory together with his adventure companions Jules Gounon, Daniel Juncadella and Lucas Auer. “The goal is victory – says the Dutchman on the eve of the start of the Nurburgring 24 Hours weekend, in which he will once again be at the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 already driven on three other occasions this year – and that is the reason why we are here. And even though I know it won’t be easy, this is the target for anyone who takes part in this race.” “Driving at night? It’s probably the best feeling because you’re on your own, pushing in the dark. The car is also usually faster at night, so I’m looking forward to it,” concludes Max Verstappen.
