ANCAP Safety has released its latest round of crash test results, awarding five-star safety ratings to the BYD SEAL 6, MG4 EV Urban, and Tesla Model Y L. The reassessed Škoda Octavia also retained its top rating, reinforcing strong safety performance across multiple segments.
BYD SEAL 6 leads the latest safety batch
The BYD SEAL 6 emerged as the strongest performer in this release, achieving a leading 92% score in Adult Occupant Protection. Offered in both sedan and wagon formats, the large plug-in hybrid delivered consistently strong results across all four ANCAP assessment pillars.
Crash testing showed high levels of protection for both driver and passengers, with critical body regions well safeguarded in most impact scenarios.

MG4 EV Urban delivers strong small EV performance
The MG4 EV Urban, a new compact battery-electric model set to launch in March 2026, earned a five-star rating with balanced performance across all safety categories.
The model demonstrated strong crash protection in both frontal and side impacts, while its autonomous emergency braking system performed effectively in pedestrian and cyclist detection scenarios. The rating applies across all variants of the MG4 EV Urban.

Tesla Model Y L scores high but child seat fit raises concerns
The six-seat, three-row Tesla Model Y L also secured a five-star rating, performing strongly in Safety Assist and Adult Occupant Protection.
The assessment was based on the five-seat Model Y, with additional testing conducted to validate results for the long-wheelbase variant. However, ANCAP identified challenges with child restraint installation in the second and third rows, particularly due to limitations with top tether routing and ISOFIX accessibility.
As a result, caution is advised when fitting child seats in these seating positions.
Škoda Octavia retains top rating

The Škoda Octavia maintained its five-star rating following a reassessment of vehicles produced from July 2025 onwards, confirming its continued strong safety performance.
“Clear strengths across all models”
ANCAP Chief Executive Officer Carla Hoorweg said the latest results highlight distinct strengths across the tested vehicles.
She noted that the BYD SEAL 6 leads in occupant protection, the Tesla Model Y L stands out in safety assist technologies, and the MG4 EV Urban remains competitive within the small electric vehicle segment.
Hoorweg also emphasised that consumers now have a wider range of safe vehicle options, underlining the importance of independent safety ratings in purchasing decisions. According to ANCAP, safety performance should remain a non-negotiable factor for all vehicle buyers.
