Photographers among the membership of the Guild of Motoring Writers planning to enter the annual Awards need to move fast, as the closing date is less than a week away.
The Photographic categories are always among the most hotly contested of the Awards which are presented at the Guild’s Dinner held in London in December. Last year saw Matt Howell prove victorious in the General Motoring Award with his submission offering fascinating perspectives and the feeling of speed, while Drew Gibson won his fourth Award in the motorsport category, exceptional use of natural light effects helping to tip the balance in his favour.
The Guild counts a host of top photographers amongst its members, their work appearing in automotive and general publications around the world. The Awards offer an opportunity for them to showcase their best work from the previous 12 months.
The Photographic Awards are open to Guild members only. There are two categories, General and Motorsport, the latter sponsored by Subaru UK. Each carries a £250 prize and a trophy.
Entrants in each category supply a portfolio of six images taken on assignment during the eligible period which have been submitted for publication – although they do not necessarily have to have been published. Supporting material showing published photographs is encouraged.
Photographers can enter both the General and the Motorsport categories. The judges are looking for an innovative or instinctive angle on photographing vehicles or motorsport action in all its diverse outlets. The winner will be selected for his or her range of photographic techniques across the full selection of their entered work.
Photographers have until Monday 5th October to submit their entries. From these three entrants in each category will be shortlisted and will receive a free ticket to the Guild Dinner at the RAC Club in Pall Mall, London in December, during which the 2026 Guild Awards will be announced and winners presented with their prizes and trophies.
Details of all the 2026 Guild Awards, rules and entry forms, can be found at www.gomw.co.uk/awards. Candidates are advised to read the online instructions carefully before entering.
