Compliments from Max
THE’excellent relationship between Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen is no mystery in the Formula 1 paddock and therefore it is not surprising that on Sunday, in China, one of the happiest for the first career success achieved by the very young Italian from Mercedes it was indeed the #3 of Red Bull.
At the end of a disastrous weekend – which ended without points and with a sad retirement – one of the few smiles in the post-race interviews Verstappen dedicated to Antonelli when, speaking to the journalists present in Shanghai, he was asked to comment on the Mercedes driver’s first F1 victory. “It doesn’t surprise me – Verstappen ruled – I said it would come and it won’t be his last“A declaration of esteem that ignores the fact that the Bolognese currently has the best car on the grid in his hands.
The four-time world champion then applauded Antonelli also in a post published on Instagram shortly after the GP, in which he commented rather succinctly on the outcome of the Shanghai race: “It wasn’t our weekend… – wrote Verstappen – big congratulations to Kimi Antonelli“.
