Australia’s used car market continued to cool in November, with both sales and listings declining across all major states, according to the latest Automotive Insights Report (AIR) from the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) and data partner AutoGrab.
National used car sales fell 6.4 per cent from October to 193,266 vehicles, while Total active listings dropped 3.5 per cent to 313,781. The slowdown was consistent across segments and regions, marking a shift toward more cautious consumer behaviour after a prolonged period of elevated activity.
AADA chief executive James Voortman says the softer conditions are being felt widely across the industry.
“November saw a clear softening across the board, with fewer buyers active in the market and a gradual reduction in stock levels,” Voortman says.
“This softer activity is something many dealers will recognise on the ground, fewer leads, longer days to sell, and a shift toward more deliberate consumer purchasing behaviour.”
Key findings from the November 2025 AIR include:
- National used car sales fell 6.4 per cent to 193,266 vehicles.
- Average days to sell increased to 46.7 days, signalling slower turnover.
- Total used car listings declined 3.5 per cent to 313,781.
- Sales across all fuel types eased at similar rates, reflecting the broader market cooling.
- SUVs remained the strongest segment, accounting for more than 43 per cent of all used sales despite month-on-month declines.
