Nissan, Wayve and Uber have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the development of robotaxis and begin the implementation of autonomous mobility services. The Japanese company itself made this known: the three companies will launch a pilot project in Tokyo by the end of the year, using the Nissan LEAF equipped with the Wayve AI Driver autonomous driving software, accessible by users via the Uber app. Nissan invests in autonomous driving During the initial phase, the vehicles will operate on the Uber network with a trained safety operator on board, allowing passengers to experience the robotaxi service as part of their daily commute. Nissan recalls that this is Uber’s first partnership dedicated to self-driving vehicles in Japan and represents a significant milestone in Wayve and Uber’s global Robotaxi program, which involves the development of this type of service in more than ten cities around the world, including London. Partnership with Uber and Wayve “Nissan is proud to contribute to a new chapter of mobility innovation – commented Ivan Espinosa, President & CEO of Nissan Motor – Collaborating with Wayve to integrate cutting-edge AI technologies into our vehicle portfolio has consolidated a solid foundation, and we are excited to take another step forward today with the launch of the Robotaxi pilot project in Tokyo. The union between Wayve’s AI technology, the Uber network and Nissan vehicles represents a concrete demonstration of our ability to transform our vision in reality: making intelligent mobility part of everyday life”.
