Mercedes-AMG is renewing its strategy with new CEO Stefan Weckbach: The product range is being moved forward with the new V8 and electric super sedan compatible with Euro 7. The road hasn’t been smooth for Mercedes-AMG in recent years—between the C 63’s controversial switch to four cylinders, discount rumors, and the AMG One recall due to fire risk—the brand is preparing for a comprehensive reset that extends from its product line to its executive suite.
Stefan Weckbach, who managed the Porsche Taycan program, was appointed CEO of Mercedes-AMG. He will take office on July 1, 2026 and will head the Top End Vehicle Group, which includes the G-Class and Maybach. Current AMG boss Michael Schiebe has already ascended to the Mercedes-Benz board of directors and will be responsible for production, quality and supply chains from 1 December 2025. When these resumes are put side by side, it is not surprising that the expectation that high performance and high-end luxury will be more closely knit together increases.
In addition to this staff change, AMG also pointed out that more emotional premieres are on the way: A new V8 developed with Euro 7 in mind, and in parallel, powerful electric models inspired by the GT XX concept, which will pave the way for an electric super sedan that is expected to evolve into production and a related SUV.
