Hyundai Appoints Uni Hong to Lead Energy and Hydrogen Business

Hyundai Motor Group has appointed Uni Hong as Executive Vice President and Head of its HMG Energy & Hydrogen Business Division, strengthening the Group’s global strategy in hydrogen and future energy technologies. Hong, who brings 18 years of international energy industry experience from bp, will lead efforts to expand and commercialize the Group’s energy and hydrogen businesses worldwide.
Hyundai Motor Group is strengthening its leadership in the global hydrogen and energy sectors with the appointment of Uni Hong as Executive Vice President and Head of the HMG Energy & Hydrogen Business Division.
In her new role, Hong will focus on strengthening the Group’s future energy business strategy while accelerating the global expansion and commercialization of its hydrogen and energy activities. She will report to Gang Hyun Seo, President and Head of the Group’s Corporate Planning Office.

18 Years of Global Energy Experience
Hong joins Hyundai Motor Group with 18 years of experience in the global energy industry, gained primarily at bp. During her career at the energy company, she led business development, strategic partnerships and government policy engagement across major international markets.
Her expertise spans hydrogen, ammonia, petroleum and LNG, with responsibilities including business development, strategy development and execution, investment feasibility assessments, profitability analysis and management of global energy portfolios.
Hong began taking on senior responsibilities in the hydrogen sector in recent years. In 2021, she served as Chief of Staff to bp’s Head of Technology, before taking leadership of the company’s hydrogen and ammonia business development organization in 2022.
From 2023 onward, she led bp’s Global Hydrogen Origination activities, overseeing hydrogen business development as well as government coordination and policy engagement on a global scale.
Hyundai Targets a Broader Hydrogen Ecosystem
Hyundai Motor Group expects Hong’s international experience, execution capabilities and global network to strengthen the competitiveness of its future energy businesses and accelerate the expansion of its global hydrogen ecosystem.
The Group has already established a presence across various stages of the hydrogen value chain. With Hong’s appointment, Hyundai aims to expand its activities beyond mobility and play a greater role in the broader hydrogen and energy ecosystem.
The Group also plans to accelerate the development of a global next-generation energy ecosystem while contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through its hydrogen and future energy initiatives.
Commenting on her appointment, Uni Hong said Hyundai Motor Group had already made significant progress across the hydrogen value chain. She added that she aims to leverage her global experience in energy and hydrogen business development to support the Group’s expansion beyond mobility and further strengthen its energy operations.
Hong Replaces Ken Ramirez
Hong succeeds Ken Ramirez, who stepped down from his position for personal reasons.
Through the leadership change, Hyundai Motor Group aims to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen technologies, expand its global energy operations and strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving future energy market.
