Volvo Buses bodybuilding partner MCV is now opening an all-new, Volvo-dedicated special production line for the manufacturing of complete electric city and intercity buses for European markets. By strengthening its partnership with MCV, Volvo Buses is continuing to develop its business model. The new facility, located at MCVs premises outside Cairo, Egypt, has been built to meet the highest standard of quality and production requirements, and was formally inaugurated on September 16.MCV began producing complete Volvo electric buses in 2024, even as the new facility was under construction, and the first buses have already been delivered to customers in Europe. The new plant increases production capacity and enables greater flexibility in adapting vehicles to meet the needs of different markets and customers. The plant spans 10,000 m² and the construction work has been finalized within 12 months, with the first rollouts from the new plant expected this fall.Volvo Buses has established partnerships with several bodybuilders globally to create the flexibility needed for each market. A close partnership is key in developing optimal solutions for our customers.“The business model to collaborate with body builders for the bus body is well established in many key markets around the world. For example, in the UK, MCV has been a reliable partner for over 15 years, supplying bodies for various Volvo bus models,” says Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses.MCV was founded in 1995 by Eng. Karim Ghabbour. The headquarters are located in Obour, with production facilities in El Salheya El Gedida—both cities within the Cairo metropolitan area. The new MCV plant produces the Volvo 7900 Electric and Electric Artic city buses, as well as the Volvo 8900 Electric, which serves both city and intercity routes.“With an extended partnership with MCV, we can maintain and reinforce our standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. The new manufacturing plant combined with our joint history and ambitions to deliver the best solutions to our customers provide a solid foundation for growth,” concludes Anna Westerberg.Sep 20, 2025
