Freelander 8, one of the biggest surprises of 2026, is 5.1 meters long and was developed by the Jaguar Land Rover and Chery joint venture with the global market in mind. According to SPEEDME journalists on April 26, this model will arrive in Europe at a price between 45,000 and 55,000 euros, which places it below the Defender and makes it a strong competitor in the premium SUV segment. The project moved quickly: The production version of the concept was just three weeks away. Nearly a thousand test vehicles are currently undergoing trials in many countries, including Australia. The Freelander 8 was designed from the beginning as a global product, with left-hand and right-hand drive versions and adaptations to comply with European regulations. Technically, it is on Chery’s T1X platform and has a modern 800-volt architecture. The product range will include fully electric, hybrid and extended range options. Key features include a CATL battery that supports up to 360 kW charging, Huawei ADS 4.1 driving assistance system with LiDAR, and a powerful Snapdragon-based digital platform. It is worth noting that Freelander became an independent brand without any Land Rover badges. Chery is responsible for technology and production, while JLR is responsible for design and positioning. This approach reflects a new market strategy that combines Chinese engineering with a European image.
