ADUO, budget cap: it is always a political battle One of the themes that emerged in recent days in Austria was that relating to the comments of some drivers – such as Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz – who said they were amazed at the pace of updating of various teams, given that a strict budget cap regime is in force.
These stances then caused a rather piqued response from Lando Norris, who invited his colleagues to talk less and focus on their respective technical situations. Wolff intervenes and takes it out on Ferrari. Toto Wolff of Mercedes then intervened in the debate: “We are a little surprised that Ferrari is able to introduce such significant updates. In my opinion they will soon run out of money, that foreseen by the budget cap. We cannot do it, we do not have a sufficient margin in the spending ceiling to be able to introduce as many parts as they do”. Wolff hopes that the situation can be reversed during the championship: “We hope that towards the end of the season they won’t be able to introduce new parts, while we will be able to bring more innovations. This suggests the logic.”
And again, always with the Red in the sights: “The only ones who are not slowing down the pace of updates are those of Ferrari. In Montreal we introduced an important package and then minor components and so did Red Bull and McLaren. Only Ferrari seems to have no limits in this sense and what’s more they were expecting the ADUO and arrived with a new engine. But to bring a new power unit you must have started development six months ago…”.
