Updated Audi Q4 e-tron: displays, bi-directional charging and more autonomy

The Audi Q4 e-tron features an interior devoid of physical buttons, large displays and updated bi-directional charging.
Audi has introduced the Q4 e-tron update, focusing on digitizing the cabin and incorporating new electrical features. The crossover has received a number of technical improvements, but the most notable change is the removal of physical buttons for climate control: all functions are now integrated into the infotainment system. The interior focuses on displays: the 12.8-inch central display combines with the 11.9-inch digital instrument panel. An optional 12-inch passenger screen, the largest in the brand’s history, is also offered. The move underlines Audi’s trend of abandoning traditional controls and moving towards touch interfaces. From a technical perspective, the update is clearer. The Q4 is the first Audi EV to support two-way charging (V2L), allowing the car to be used as a power source for up to 2.3 kW. V2H functionality for powering a home will also be available in select markets. Charging and efficiency features have also been improved. The version with an 82 kWh battery supports up to 185 kW, adding approximately 180 km of autonomy in just 10 minutes. A full charge from 10% to 80% takes approximately 27 minutes. Thanks to the new electric motor and revised transmission, the total range in the WLTP cycle increases to 592 km. Despite the technical improvements, the update raises ergonomic questions. Removing physical buttons is a controversial move, especially in the face of criticism of modern interfaces. Nevertheless, Audi continues to move towards total digitalisation, relying on software solutions and a range of functions. In total, the Q4 e-tron becomes a typical representative of the new generation of EVs: more technology, more screens and less traditional interaction with the car.
