A mystery to be solved
Aston Martin in Australia will focus on the hunt for the origins of vibrations which brought the Honda power unit to its knees, vibrations which, according to Newey, are also dangerous for the health of the riders.
The team principal stated in the press conference that Fernando Alonso doesn’t think he can go beyond 25 laps in a row to avoid risking permanent damage to his hands, theshold which in the case of Lance Stroll drops to 15.
Alonso partially denied what Newey claimed, admitting however that the vibrations are unusual and it is not clear whether there could be any long-term consequences. Lance Stroll he used a chilling comparison to explain the sensations he feels inside the passenger compartment: “The vibrations? I don’t know what to compare them to, I imagine it’s similar to receiving shocks in the electric chair. It’s a very annoying and harmful vibration for the engine, but also for us drivers inside the cockpit. In general, however, the car progressively loses pieces due to the vibrations”.
