What the Spanish driver said
“Alonso thinks he can’t do more than 25 laps in a row before risking permanently damaging his hands. Lance thinks he can’t do more than 15 laps before reaching that limit. I think there’s no point in not being open and honest“. Adrian Newey made these worrying statements at a press conference regarding the vibrations that are causing great difficulty for Aston Martin given that these unusual vibrations have triggered unexpected failures in the gearbox and components of the Honda power unit, in particular the battery.
Fernando Alonso has partially refuted the thesis supported by Adrian Newey regarding a rpm threshold beyond which it is better not to go in order not to risk permanent damage to the nerves of the hands: “I want to be clear, it’s not something painful. It’s not difficult to control the car. The adrenaline is simply much stronger than any pain. If we were fighting for victory, we could spend three or four hours in the car. Surely these vibrations are something unusual and shouldn’t be there, we don’t even know what the consequences would be if I continued to drive like this for months, so a solution needs to be found.”
“In Japan everyone is trying to resolve the situation every day, we are also here to lend a hand,” added Alonso regarding a ‘laboratory’ weekend at Aston Martin-Honda.
