Renault’s next-gen Rafale crossover arrives in 2028 with up to 750 km range, 800-volt charging, and an EREV option covering 1400 km. Built on a cost-efficient platform with up to 500 hp.
Renault is preparing the next-generation Rafale crossover, which will become the brand’s key electric flagship in Europe. The model is set to launch in 2028, will be built in Spain, and will offer a range of up to 750 km in its fully electric version.The new vehicle will ride on the RGEV Medium 2.0 platform, which is expected to cut production costs by roughly 40% while boosting performance to premium-segment levels. Alongside the standard BEV, Renault will offer an extended-range electric version (EREV) capable of covering up to 1,400 km without recharging.The Rafale will switch to rear- or all-wheel drive, with power outputs ranging from 275 to 500 hp. A key feature will be the 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in about 15 minutes. The model will also come with a modern electronic architecture supporting over-the-air updates and the Android Automotive system.

Renault is also focusing on handling and comfort: optional features will include 4Control all-wheel steering and an adaptive suspension with a predictive camera. At the same time, the company aims to keep weight under 2 tons, which is important for efficiency.Against the backdrop of the Tesla Model Y, the new Rafale appears as a more long-range and technologically complete offering. The French crossover promises up to 750 km compared to roughly 500–600 km for the Model Y, along with faster charging thanks to the 800-volt system. Meanwhile, Tesla retains an advantage in its software ecosystem and mature charging network, while Renault is betting on price, versatility via the EREV, and European localization.
