Marcos unveils Mosquito prototype, a lightweight track car using BMW/Mini parts, aiming for production by 2026. Learn about its revival and market strategy.
The British brand Marcos, known for its lightweight sports cars, is preparing to return to the market. After nearly 20 years without new models, the company has unveiled the Mosquito prototype and plans to launch a production version by the end of 2026. This marks another attempt to revive a brand that has experienced multiple bankruptcies and relaunches throughout its history.New Prototype and ConceptThe Mosquito project is envisioned as a lightweight track car with minimal mass and high performance. The prototype is made from fiberglass and uses components from BMW and Mini, which should simplify development and reduce costs.marcosInitially conceived as a test project, interest has been so high that it is now being considered for series production.Technical Approach and PlansThe company is banking on a classic philosophy: low weight and high power. The Mosquito draws inspiration from the historic Mini Marcos and targets track-day enthusiasts, where handling matters more than comfort. In parallel, a second sports car is under development—this one mid-engined, with around 350 horsepower and very low mass, promising an impressive power-to-weight ratio.Market and StrategyMarcos aims to occupy the niche of affordable sports cars, competing with Caterham and Westfield. The company emphasizes it will not venture into the ultra-expensive segment, instead focusing on enthusiasts. However, the brand’s history shows that previous comeback attempts have not always succeeded, adding risk to the current project.
