Ford’s patent for an enhanced side-view system allows drivers to control side mirrors via the turn signal stalk, offering preset positions and automatic adjustments, especially useful for towing.
Ford has filed a patent for an enhanced side-view system that could feature in future vehicles. The system would let drivers control side mirrors using the turn signal stalk, making it easy to extend or retract them based on driving conditions.Drivers can enable or disable this function. If they choose to use it, they can preset mirror positions, save them, and then switch between settings with a single button press. This feature would be particularly useful for those who frequently tow trailers. Ford notes in the patent that the system can automatically detect when side mirror adjustments are needed.About three years ago, Ford published a patent for adjustable towing mirrors. Those used a trailer angle sensor and adjustable viewing windows to help monitor trailer movement when driving forward or in reverse. As Ford pointed out in that patent, it can sometimes be difficult or even impossible to see where a trailer is going if it’s positioned at certain angles, forcing users to adjust mirrors manually.
