Fiesta is back…Ford will use Renault AmpR platform for affordable electric vehicles in Europe…
Ford has made an unexpected move for Europe: the company has agreed to a strategic partnership with Renault and will launch at least two “affordable” electric models on the French AmpR EV platform. The first car is expected at the beginning of 2028 – it will be the successor to the Fiesta, built on the basis of the Renault 5 architecture and will be assembled at the ElectriCity factory complex in Douai (France). The hardware is expected to be close to Renault: the front electric motor is planned to be in the range of approximately 121-215 hp, while the batteries are planned to have a power of 40 or 52 kWh.
Why is Ford doing this? Following the departure of the Fiesta and the end of Focus production, the European range became more expensive and consisted almost entirely of SUV/MPVs; Demand for electric crossovers has been weaker than expected. He sees returning to the mass segment through a ready-made platform as a way to quickly reduce development costs and regain market share. Timing has not been announced yet.
