Bugatti has completed the last Bolide, ending a project that began in 2021 and pushed the brand through years of track testing and development. The goal was simple on paper but demanding in practice. Bugatti wanted a pure track car that delivered extreme performance while still meeting the quality standards tied to its road models. With the final car now finished in Molsheim, the program comes to a close.
The Bolide started as a concept built around the idea of stripping weight and complexity. Turning that concept into a production car required nonstop engineering work, tight schedules and careful coordination across design and production teams.
The development and completion of the final Bolide
The project started in August 2021 with a clear direction. Engineers and designers worked through 2021 and 2022 to finalize the car’s shape, systems, and structural layout. By early 2023, the design was locked, allowing Bugatti to move into full prototype testing. One key moment came at Le Mans in 2023 when Bugatti’s test driver reached 217 miles per hour during the circuit’s centenary events.
From mid-2023 through early 2024, development followed an intensive daily plan. Teams worked from early morning to late at night, reviewing data each evening and preparing the car for the next day. The goal was to validate performance while ensuring the car met Bugatti’s long-term build standards. Alongside engine and chassis work, the company focused on finish quality, treating it as a requirement equal to performance.
By 2025, the first client track sessions began, signaling that the project had reached its final phase. Production then wound down at the Molsheim Atelier, with each car reflecting the full development process.
The final customer car and its heritage inspired spec
The last Bolide was commissioned by a longtime Bugatti collector who based its colors on his own Type 35. The mix of Black Blue, Special Blue Lyonnais, and Lake Blue Alcantara ties the car to Bugatti’s competition history. Small details, including the French flag on the body and light blue interior stitching, complete the theme. With only 40 cars built, this final example closes the Bolide program with a specification linked directly to the brand’s past.
