The chronicle of Qualifying in Montreal The victory, hard-fought and defended with teeth, in the Sprint Race must have galvanized George Russell. Thus, with almost the same suffering and despite a slightly unstable and almost imperfect car, the English Mercedes driver puts himself back in front of everyone even at the end of the decisive Q3 for the starting grid of the Canadian F1 GP on Sunday. The 28-year-old in fact managed right at the end, on his last good lap and after having already made an attempt with the same set of tyres, to beat the competition by drowning out the scream from the pit side of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who was probably already enjoying another pole position. The young Bolognese, however, defends himself well and, with a delay of just 68 thousandths – the same as yesterday – completes yet another all-silver front row of this 2026 Formula 1 season. Behind him, in the identical repetition of the result of Friday evening’s sprint qualifying, we find the two McLarens, with the reigning world champion Lando Norris ahead of his boxmate Oscar Piastri. And with Lewis Hamilton continuing to show himself particularly on the ball between the walls of Montreal, confirming himself as Ferrari’s best driver, albeit mocked at the end and therefore slipping to fifth place: the Englishman, however, pays for a smaller delay, with “only” 290 thousandths of a second from the pole time of his former teammate. Things went decidedly less well for Charles Leclerc: the Monegasque continued his somewhat anonymous weekend, complaining about the balance of the car without managing to go beyond the eighth final place. Of course it must be said that, contrary to what we have seen many other times this season, the gaps are very narrow: Leclerc is indeed in the fourth row, but only 398 thousandths behind Russell. The two Red Bulls positioned themselves in front of him, with Max Verstappen doing well to beat Isack Hadjar in the last attempt, who seemed to be starting to believe in the possibility of beating the four-time world champion. Arvid Lindblad and Franco Colapinto close the fifth row on the starting grid, as the last to qualify for Q3. F1 GP Canada 2026, live coverage and qualifying standings You can relive the emotions of the official tests in Canada with our live coverage. The weekend program F1 returns to the track on the Italian evening of Sunday 24 May, with the key event of the entire weekend, the race that closes the 2026 Canadian GP weekend. The fifth stage of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship starts at 10.00 pm, at a slightly unusual hour to avoid (or minimize as much as possible) any coincidences with the Indianapolis 500 (which instead starts at 6.45 pm). Here are all the weekend times with details of television coverage.
